In 2015, eclectic shoe designer, Sophia Webster teamed up with beverage giant, Coca-Cola to design a pair of funky shoes for Paris Fashion Week. The limited-edition capsule collection included “high heels and bags that incorporated the iconic Coca-Cola logo, as well as some more subtle, discoverable details” on four of her signature shapes, including her speech bubble clutch. “We are thrilled about the Coca-Cola collection with Sophia – she is an incredibly talented designer known for her unique aesthetic and witty designs. Our collaboration with Sophia Webster is an exciting chapter in the story of our brand,” Coca-Cola Global Licensing Manager, Marsha Schroeder noted at the time.
TWO WORLDS COLLIDE IN A REFRESHING MANNER
While I may have thought it would be impossible for these two brands to top their first collection, I was elated to see this partnership revived. This year, the refreshing pair once again collaborated for the British fashion designer’s London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2018 preview. The glamourous collection – in collaboration with Coca-Cola – is inspired by the spirit and style of Sophia’s all-time favourite ballroom-dancing film, the classic Strictly Ballroom.
STRICTLY BALLROOM RECREATION
In one of the film’s most memorable moments, the hero and heroine dance on a terrace beneath a giant and brightly lit Coca-Cola billboard. Drawing on this iconic scene, Sophia collaborated with Coca-Cola to create two pairs of elegant Latin-style shoes with the Coca-Cola logo crystallised on the heel and embroidered in the satin – as well a ‘billboard’ clutch bag in signature Coca-Cola red and decorated with crystals. All three pieces are embellished with crystals which look like cold water droplets on a cool glass.
What a vibrant, glamourous and fun collaboration! Webster’s witty designs and fun aesthetic keep A-Listers like Rihanna, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoë Kravitz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rita Ora & Kendall Jenner yearning for more of her pieces. I can’t wait to see more quirky collaborations between these two.
