Launched late last year, Thando Thabethe’s underwear and shapewear range, Thabootys, was created to make women feel sexy regardless of their size or shape. “I wanted to create something women wouldn’t be ashamed to wear, and something that would meet my functional needs. Whether it was to even out, control or contour, I needed something that wouldn’t roll down my body or make me feel like I was wearing a blanket underneath my clothes,” the Actress, TV presenter and radio personality said at the time of the launch.
Body positivity is on everyone’s lips at the moment, and Thabethe prides herself in being an advocate of the movement. With the launch of the Thabootys the starlet said, “I hope to impart my philosophies around women practicing self love, reclaiming their bodies and being comfortable in their skin while also disposing of the fallacy that women dress for men.”
Thabootys and Brutal Fruit are some of the brands that have called for self love this Valentine’s, through the #LoveYourself and #BraveToLoveMe campaigns respectively. “Why wait for someone to gift YOU…gift yourself #LoveYourself, Thabootys said on Instagram. Earlier this month, the Cîroc Ambassador also teased at a collaboration with e-commerce store, Spree.
Self love is such an important message to push and it is one we need to be reminded of on a daily basis. What I’ve also realised is that embracing and loving yourself doesn’t mean you are not for romantic love. The former is needed in order for the latter to work and function properly. As Thando and her Thanootys have advised, the most important thing this Valentine’s is to #LoveYourself.
