“You don’t go natural, you return to it”. This was the motto on Tuesday, the 4th of July, as the Fine Living by David Muirhead boutique function venue in Sandton bustled with flower crowns on naturally-curly/afro mane beauties gathered together for the L’Oreal Paris SA #CurlPride event, for the brand’s new Afro-specific hair care range launch and brand advocate reveal. The range called Elvive Extraordinary Oil – Curl Nourishment is the first of its kind for the beauty giant. Tailored to curly and afro hair, the range is made up of a Low Shampoo Cleansing Cream, Oil-in-Balm Nourishing Leave-In and Curl Nourishment Masque, enriched with Amla oil and 6 precious floral extracts oils that are beneficial for African hair.
In a series of live tweets about the event on the day, @L’orealParisSA tweeted: “We are so excited to be announcing our NEW brand advocate and lorealista #curlpride”, in what I can confidently deem as one of the most fitting brand partnerships, the French cosmetics giant revealed the dazzling Nomzamo Mbatha as the brand advocate for the range. She joins a bevy of A-Listers like Aishwarya Rai, Barbara Palvin, Liya Kebede, Doutzen Kroes who are part of the L’oreal family.
Whilst the enthralling actress-model-presenter is not shy to experiment with different hairstyle choices, she is dearly known for her head full of voluminous natural Afro which she often adeptly pairs with her Africanisque with a modern twist sartorial choices, from her striking headwraps to African print dresses and Zulu beaded accessories Nomzamo is the definition of afro-chic.
Although she was not present at the event, the Nubian Princess – as she calls herself, took to social media to mark the occasion, “I am honoured and proud to announce that I am the NEW Brand Advocate for @LorealParisSA @lorealhair #CurlPride” she shared. “Thank you to all Media, family, friends and colleagues who came out to the press launch today. My sincere apologies for not being present, in the moment with you. And to everyone who has been sending their LOVE, NGIYABONGA… ngiyabonga. It is felt. It is received.”
The ever-so vivacious Nomzamo has been gaining international traction, flying the South African flag high with so much aplomb in USA and living her best life whilst at it. In June alone, she was all shades of hot at the 10th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at Liberty Park, New York where she was rubbing shoulders with the likes of Alicia Keys after scoring an exclusive invitation from the Veuve International Team. She also had an incredibly successful co-hosting and presenting gig at the 2017 BET Awards International Awards ceremony alongside US-model Eva Marcille in Los Angeles, and a week later hosted the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. Mbatha is arguably having the best year, with her impeccable talents, irresistible beauty and radiating personality she is well on her way to global stardom.
The L’oreal partnership adds to her already illustrious brand ambassadorship resume, which comprises of prestigious brands such as PUMA, Audi and Neutrogena. Nomzamo who has also been bestowed the July cover of the Marie Claire annual Naked Issue is on a bolting winning streak and her blossoming brand continues to inspire us all.
Congratulations to Nomzamo on all her remarkable milestones as her career soars to greater heights! I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.
