She has always been determined to become something in the entertainment industry. For me, it was evident that MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen wouldn’t be the last we hear from Teyana Taylor. A few years after her TV debut, Taylor signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, after asking for her release from Pharrell’s Star Trak label. As an aspiring songwriter, Taylor has worked with and written records for multiple music superstars such as Usher, BFF Chris Brown and Omarion to mention a few.
In 2013, a year after joining the G.O.O.D. Music family, Taylor signed a deal to design and release two pairs of sneakers with adidas. The first pair released were the Harlem GLC’s, which hit stores February 16 the same year and according to adidas Global Director of Entertainment and Influencer Marketing, Jonathan Wexler, at the time, Taylor broke the record for fastest selling sneakers in adidas Originals history. Because Teyana’s first adidas shoe was such a hit, the brand signed her on for a second design to be released in November 2013. Unfortunately, that never happened. Adidas confirmed that it had dropped Taylor from the deal. Following her Twar with Rihanna. “We have ended our relationship with Teyana Taylor and do not have any upcoming product launches with her,” a senior PR manager said at the time. Hopefully we have all come to realize that it’s not just twitter.
On August 28, 2016, Junie’s mommy finally got her big industry break courtesy of boss Kanye West when he released the world premiere of the music video for his single, “FADE”, at the MTV Video Music Awards, which features Taylor. In the FADE video, Teyana performs a dance routine, inspired by the 1983 film Flashdance.
Since the “FADE” video dropped, Teyana’s name has been on everyone lips, from Vogue features to covers for major platforms such as Paper and Self Magazines. I love that Teyana has also been smart about utilizing the hype around her at the moment. She recently announced the launch of her new dance workout videos, appropriately named “Fade 2 Fit.” How smart? On her site Fade2Fit.com visitors can a signup for the upcoming fitness program and a dance fitness tour. “Everyone keeps asking me what I did to get my body. If you want to know my secret, sign up to get more information on the upcoming dance fitness program and dance workout tour,” a message on the site reads.
Additionally, Reebok recently announced its new partnership with the recording artist. The partnership was announced with a 30-second video, where Taylor breaks into her choreography from “FADE” and expresses that the deal with Reebok is a “dream come true.” No formal details regarding the partnership have been released just yet, but we will be waiting patiently for more details as they become available.
