17-year old Yara Shahidi is my favourite fresh face at the moment. I absolutely adore her gorgeous face and her flawless, yet age appropriate style. Shahidi’s major break came when she starred in ABC’s prime-time comedy, ‘Black-ish’, as 14-year-old Zoey Johnson. In December 2014 she won an NAACP Image Award in the category of ‘Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy’.
She began her career at age 6, appearing in television and print advertisements for brands such as McDonald’s, Ralph Lauren, Target, GapKids, Disney and Guess Kids. Over the 10 years, this young lady has been working, first in print and television ads, then on TV shows, starting with an Entourage appearance. What I also love about Yara is how as a young model/actress/activist she has used Twitter and Instagram to build a sizeable audience with whom she regularly engages on social justice issues.
She is fast becoming a Red Carpet starlet in her own right, and has recently been named as the face of Beyonce’s Ivy Park collection.
